	When can I join the IHSRA?
		The IHSRA accepts membership applications year-round for the current year's membership. Our rodeos are scheduled in conjunction with the fall and spring school sessions. Performance points begin to accumulate from our first fall rodeo and continue through to the State Finals in July, but you can begin rodeoing any time during the year. The IHSRA has a $150.00 mandatory fundraising fee per student you may seek sponsors to cover this fee or pay yourself. These funds go back to the students in the way of Cowboy Prom, National Qualifying Team, Awards and other student activities. Throughout the year there are also other fundraising activities that are held by the students which we encourage everyone to participate in.
	My family doesn't have any rodeo background. Is there really a chance for me to start this sport?
		Come and talk to the many, many high school athletes at our rodeo who train for bulls, brave the broncs, borrow the horse and grow as rodeo athletes under the guidance of lifetime experienced rodeo athletes that are always looking to build another athlete. The IHSRA has hundreds of dedicated and experienced volunteers committed to teaching, preserving and promoting the sport of rodeo. With the help of our volunteers, sponsors and student members we are able to build an organization that gives back to our membership. Each of our members are required to seek or pay a $150.00 fundraising/awards/student fee.
	What forms to I need completed in order to join?
		You will need to complete Membership application 2 pages which need notarized, and your code of conduct form with grades, as well as your entry form in order to enter each rodeo. These items can be found on our annoucement board. If you have questions please call 641-757-2074 for any help in locating these forms.
Planning for the Rodeo
	Should I bring rainwear in case it rains or do the rodeos get called off for bad weather?
		The times a rodeo will be cancelled because of weather are practically non-existent. Raincoats, warm coats, and muddin boots should be packed regardless of the forecast!
	When should I arrive?
		Most contestants begin arriving the day before the rodeo (normally Friday), but people continue to arrive right up to check-in. All contestants must have arrived and checked-in with the rodeo secretary by 11:30 a.m. the first day of the rodeo. Normally, check-in is on Saturday morning, with the rodeo to begin immediately following check-in. There are exceptions to this, so make sure you check the details of each rodeo.
	Is there an advantage to arriving the day before?
		Sure. Arriving early gives you a great chance to select your camping spot and spend the night talking and laughing with the greatest rodeo loving bunch of people in the world.
	What should I expect at the first rodeo?
		Each rodeo begins with mandatory contestant check-in from 9:00 a.m. to 10:0=30 a.m, unless otherwise noted. Ask where the rodeo secretary is located for check-in. That's where you go. At 11:30 noon there is a parent/contestant meeting in the grandstands we encourage parents to always attend these meetings. The rodeo usually starts about 1:00 p.m. and after the rodeo, it's off to the contestants' dance and more fun! Sunday, it's back to the rodeo following a peaceful moment in camp or church. Also, the IHSRA has a $25.00 Mandatory Saddle Raffle Ticket fee you are assested at your first rodeo when you pay your entry fees. You may then go out and sell these tickets to the public to recoop your cost or you may fill out the stubs and place in the drawing box for yourself.
Rodeo Stuff
	I've heard that the rodeo can be really dangerous. Do people get hurt often?
		Well, we've heard that the rodeo is really fun and exciting! Actually, there are no more injuries at a rodeo than a football game. The IHSRA is dedicated to providing professionally trained bullfighters, rodeo company cowboys and other personnel that provide excellent support and protect the competitors.
	Do you rodeo for points or money?
		The IHSRA runs for points only. Champions at the end of the year receive awards including saddles, buckles and other sponsor values.
	How are the points awarded to contestants?
		One to ten points are awarded in each event to the top ten contestants. First place receives 10 points second place receives 9 points and so forth down to one point for tenth place. Each weekend is normally two days of rodeo, but each day of that weekend is considered a separate rodeo for point purposes. In this way, every contestant is given two separate opportunities to earn points each weekend. At State Finals, the top 15 finishers in the standings for each event are given one additional opportunity for points (this is called the "Short-Go"). Points from the "Short-Go" are added to the contestants' standings From this total, our champions are crowned, with the top 4 in each event eligible to represent the State of Iowa at the National High School Rodeo Finals.
Queen Contest
	How do I get an application for the Queen contest?
		On the IHSRA website, you will find the Queen application under the button titled "Forms". You should be able to download the form to complete.
	What kind of deadlines are there?
		All photos must be turned in by May 1, 2004. Please download the Queen Reminder from the "Forms" section of the IHSRA site.
	What kinds of events, as queen, will I be required to attend?
		There are numerous event obligations that you will need to meet during your reign as Queen. For a list of some of those obligations, download the Queen Recommendation form found in "Forms" on the IHSRA site.
	What do I need to do to complete the application and fulfill the application requirements to apply for Queen?
		Please download the NHSRA Queen Instructions found in the "Forms" section of the IHSRA site. This will assist you in the completion of your application.
	What kind of Horsemanship Patterns are required?
		There are two horsemanship patterns required to be performed by the Queen contestants. To view those patterns, please download Horsemanship Pattern #1 and Horsemanship Pattern 2 from the "Forms" section of the IHSRA site.
	What other forms am I required to complete?
		You will need to complete and sign the Queen Pagent Contract. You can downloan the Queen Pagent Contract from the "Forms" section of the IHSRA site.
	What will take place at the Queen Pagent?

Insurance and Emergency Medical Services
	I have health insurance on my own, so do I have to purchase the rodeo insurance too?
		Yes, you must purchase the insurance. This insurance is a secondary insurance which is required by the National Office as a condition of membership.
	Does the Association have services available if there is an injury?
		Yes. The IHSRA is committed to your safety and health. There are emergency personnel and ambulance services available at each rodeo very similar to high school football games.
